Buena Tsarfati's origin was from an eminent sepharadic family of Salonika, according to Rachel Ben Tzvi, who met Buena in a refugee camp of Aleppo, Syria. With the help of two Greek partisans, George and Nikolas, she joined the Greek partisan army, using the name Maritsa. In a letter sent to the Aliya department of Jewish Agency, dated from 13 of January 1944.dr.Nahon mentions a conversation he had with Buena a few days earlier, on 11/01/1944.
